Launching a Community Radio & TV Station in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Launching a Community Radio & TV Station in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Executive Summary & Vision

“The participation of the population is becoming the central issue of our time,” states the UNDP in its 1993 Human Development Report. To this, we must add that communication is the indispensable instrument for participation.

Development programs can only reach their full potential when stakeholders effectively share their knowledge, insights, and techniques, and when local populations are deeply motivated to succeed. Until communities become the main drivers of their own advancement, external investments, technology, or production factors alone cannot sustainably improve their standard of living.

Communication sits directly at the heart of this challenge. It enables planners, right from the project identification and formulation phase, to engage in meaningful dialogue with the local population to understand and integrate their needs, attitudes, and traditional knowledge. Through communication, beneficiaries evolve into the primary actors of development projects.

Our Solution

The Fondation Lendo Mavungu Héritier (F.L.M.H)—which actively works toward sustainable development, education, health, and empowerment in the Democratic Republic of Congo—is planning the creation of a Community Media platform (Television and Radio) with the support of external partners.

The primary objective is to train and inform local communities on sustainable development practices and their broader social implications.
