INNOVATION | June 2026
The DRC is home to the world's second-largest tropical rainforest and some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth. Yet rapid deforestation, driven largely by charcoal production for cooking fuel, threatens these natural resources at an alarming rate. FLMH's sustainability programs directly address this crisis by providing cleaner alternatives to communities that depend on forest resources.
We have distributed over 2,000 clean cookstoves in rural communities, reducing household charcoal consumption by up to 60%. Our reforestation program has planted 45,000 trees across degraded land in Kongo Central. And our solar micro-grid network now prevents an estimated 1,200 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year — equivalent to taking 260 cars off the road.
True sustainability means connecting environmental action with social and economic development. When a community has clean energy, children can study at night. When forests are preserved, local farmers have clean water. When women run businesses, families eat. Every pillar of our work supports the others — and together, they build the foundation for a sustainable future in the heart of Africa.
